Yes, my young son has finally lost his first tooth. And I mean he literally lost it. Fell right out of his head and he didn’t even notice. He’s been wiggling that damn tooth for weeks. Everyday we ask him how his tooth is doing and everyday he wiggles it for us and says “nearly ready.” Yesterday during dinner he proclaimed that it would probably fall out within the next day or two.
After I came home from work, I was talking to him about his day and I noticed that something looked off in his mouth. I asked him to open up and, sure enough, his tooth was gone! I exclaimed “you lost your tooth!” and he said that his other mom had pointed that out to him. I asked him where it was and he told me that he didn’t know. He had lost it. He fervently hoped that the Tooth Fairy would still come. I assured him that she had some freakish radar system that allowed her to know when teeth fell out of heads and that she would, surely, visit him tonight.
TJ told me that the entire drive home he kept muttering to himself, “I can’t believe I lost my first tooth.”
So tonight I emptied out the change jug looking for my single silver dollar and my eight Kennedy half dollars. TJ was insistent that I give him the silver dollar but I told her that I didn’t feel that he deserved it because I wasn’t going to be collecting a tooth; no tooth, no dollar. But, as usual, she won.
